Content
Visual communication is key for the scientific discourse – as figures in papers, posters at conferences and slides for talks. It can illustrate patterns and trends in your data, explain complex concepts, and guide your audience through your research project. However, many scientific publications lack coherent visual communication, making it difficult to understand the data or to follow the narrative.
This 2-day workshop provides a comprehensive training in visual communication and data presentation.
Participants will learn about
- technical basics necessary (figure guidelines, file formats)
- graphs and their combinations
- fundamentals in design
- visual storytelling
- tools and concepts
.......all aimed to help you create clear scientific visualisations for figures, slides or posters.
Teaching Methods
- Lectures
- exercises in small and larger groups
- discussion of individual data visualization
What to bring
This workshop does NOT require any specific software. The participants will mostly work with pen, paper, scissors and glue - a laptop might come be useful for some onside research.
Your own data, problems, and questions will help you benefit more from this workshop – bring as many as you can.
