The "Night of Science" aims to bring together researchers in the UNR Faculty (including masters students) to create a space for critical, cross-disciplinary dialogue and learning.

This year, our focus is on the role of scientific models and modeling. Models help scientists--be they in the social or natural sciences--understand, explain and sometimes even predict the phenomena they observe.

In the Night of Science, we want to specifically engage with the following questions:

  • Which models are used in the Faculty’s research?
  • How does the use of models differ across disciplines?
  • What purposes do models fulfill - both in the research process itself and in the communication of research findings?
  • What can models make visible; what might they obscure?

We look forward to a lively and enriching discussion with members of our Faculty in which we share our experiences and thoughts on this highly relevant topic.
