Content

Writing and publishing successfully in academia is more than a matter of knowing the right methods, or following rules. Writing a PhD and growing into a specific scientific community includes reflecting on professional roles and developing your own researcher identity. As a young researcher, you need to find your own way of dealing with content and methodological challenges as well as issues of confidence, authenticity, originality, and respect.

This hand-on workshop supports doctoral students in the challenging tasks associated with producing academic/scientific texts und getting them published. You reflect on your personal approaches to writing, and develop and experiment with professional writing strategies. You get to know techniques for writing more effectively and efficiently, and you can transfer them to your current writing projects immediately. In addition, we discuss prerequisites of getting papers published in international journals, and issues of correct, clear and appropriate language and style.

This practice-oriented workshop will help you to

  • organise your research and writing processes more effectively and efficiently
  • apply various techniques for structuring, writing, and revising scientific texts
  • develop more focused, structured texts,
  • give and receive productive text feedback,
  • recognise and use appropriate, professional language for international publications,
  • understand standards and rules for publishing in international, English-medium journals, and
  • use your new insights to produce short scientific texts right away.

Teaching Methods

  • individual writing and reflection
  • small group reflection and discussions
  • plenary discussions
  • trainer input
  • peer feedback

To really profit from our time together, you are expected to make the workshop your first priority during the two workshop days, and to be visually present. Please find a workspace where you can concentrate on writing, and safeguard confidentiality.
