Data Analysis and Statistics Using R - Beginner Level (cancelled)
Target Group
This workshop is for doctoral students who have little or no experience with the statistics programme R and want to learn how to use it.
Format
Two full days (5./6.12.) plus one half day (8.12).
Content
This workshop aims to provide an up-to-date practical introduction to the free programming language R, with a focus on data analysis and standard statistical approaches. We will focus on direct applications and examples and you will learn how to adapt the concepts to your research project.
The workshop begins with an introduction to R and RStudio. Based on practical examples, participants will apply the statistics program RStudio to visualize and analyze their own data and learn how to display their results using R. The lecturer will explain basic programming steps and discuss the pros and cons of various statistical methods. Participants will then have the opportunity to practice data processing.
The last half day of the course will be used exclusively to help the participants analyse their data and address potential problems.
The workshop will help you to
- get started using R and RStudio
- use R and RStudio to solve simple statistical problems
- create and handle vectors and data frames
- import and export CSV files
- understand why packages are helpful
- visualize data
- describe your data using statistics
Requirements:
Participants are asked to send a short summary of their research project (bullet points, text, and/or slides) and how they intend to use R by email until 1st Dec. They need their own laptop for the workshop and have R and RStudio preinstalled. If participants have problems installing R or RStudio, they are asked to contact the lecturer well in advance of the start of the workshop.
