Please register HERE for the GOLDEN DAY on Wednesday, July 15  (deadline July 13).

During Covid 19 restrictions GOLDEN DAY goes VIRTUAL. We´ll provide you with a virtual space for the live chats in the morning, before lunch, after lunch and before the end, as well as during the two longer pomodoro breaks, see timetable below. To keep track of the 25 min stretches you will use a pomodoro app, e.g. Tomato Timer.

If the GOLDEN DAY is new to you, read here:

Our GS Members agree, the GOLDEN DAY boosts productivity and helps them to get writing done. The five minute breaks look annoying (and sometimes are) but are very necessary for body and brain health! Kim will be VIRTUALLY on hand to support you and keep you to task.

Who should come?
SHUT UP AND WRITE GOLDEN DAYS are aimed at any stage PhD student that has a piece of writing they need to get on with and are prepared to set aside this day for. Attendance should be for the full day, unless individually agreed with the GS. (Reschedule those other appointments! Your supervisors will be impressed with your dedication to writing!)

Goals:
By the end of the day you will have successfully dedicated time to intensively writing, as well as connecting with GS fellows who are in the process too.

What do I need?
You will be provided with support in advance to plan for a productive day, but for now, plan to have a space ready and collect together: any piece of work that you would like to focus on; some key texts or notes that you need to work from for this piece of writing; and your writing tools - laptop (with charger!), tablet, or pen and paper, and of course, get your tea and some writing snacks sorted. Either prepare lunch in advance, or use the generous lunch break to connect with your friends and family (even if online!), get some movement into your day, or spend the time on a leisure activity.

Still not convinced?

Feedback from our GOLDEN DAY participants is overwhelmingly positive! We've had students make a good start on new writing, finish things they'd been putting off for months, and leave feeling reassured and energised after talking to the other students about their writing projects. We now have some serial attenders and the news is still good, Golden Days work! It's just one day, what do you have to lose by trying?!
