Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, GOLDEN DAYS have gone VIRTUAL. We will provide you with a supportive virtual space for focused writing blocks and chats with your peers during the breaks.

What are Golden Days?

GOLDEN DAYS boost productivity and help you get a lot of focused writing done in a short amount of time. We provide you with a structured schedule of writing blocks and breaks during Golden Days that will help you maintain momentum and focus. Djahane and Esther moderate the writing sessions by helping you set your goals for the day and debriefing at the end of the day.

Who should come?

GOLDEN DAYS are for Ph.D. students who want to dedicate some time to focus on their work. These sessions are not just for advanced students who are writing up their dissertations. Students at all stages of their Ph.D. programs are encouraged to join. Developing a consistent and focused writing practice early on is one of the best things you can do to promote timely and successful completion of your degree. Start training your writing muscle today!

What will you get?

By the end of the day, you will have successfully dedicated time to writing with no distractions. You will have also connected with fellow graduate students who are in a similar situation as you.

What do you need?

A sense of what you would like to focus on; some key texts or notes that you need to work from for this piece of writing; and your writing tools - laptop (with charger!), tablet, or pen and paper, and of course, get your tea and some writing snacks. Either prepare lunch in advance, or use the generous lunch break to connect with your friends and family (even if online!), get some movement into your day, or spend the time on a leisure activity.

We recommend to use this worksheet to plan your Golden Day.

Still not convinced?

Feedback from our GOLDEN DAY participants is overwhelmingly positive! We've had students make a good start on new writing projects, finish things they'd been putting off for months, and leave feeling reassured and energized after connecting with their peers. Golden Days work! It's just one day. Give it a try by signing up here.
