Content:
This three-week online course provides you an opportunity to discover, discuss and apply essential academic writing skills in a targeted manner. In turn, many of these skills and techniques can be applied to your ongoing writing projects in other settings. The course addresses the following writing skills: Structure, cohesion, and flow; paraphrasing and citing references; describing a study via explicit ‘moves’; commenting on data, hedging and boosting claims; discussing results and implications; peer feedback.
The sessions will help you:
- Identify ‚violations‘ of academic writing ‚standards‘ and revise accordingly
- Recognize, apply and enhance flow and cohesion in your writing
- Identify and apply approaches to establishing your voice/position (citing literature, reporting verbs, hedging, evaluative language)
- Identify and apply structures in academic writing
- Give peers constructive feedback on their writing (structure, critical perspective, style, accuracy)
