Content

In times of alternative facts and fake news, it is more important than ever to talk about science. But how do you find a connection to the audience and who should actually be addressed?

In this course, we will explore how to present one's own science and topic in a way that is appropriate for the target audience and what channels are available for meaningful communication. We will cover the most popular formats and will give you the tools to jump into communicating your science!

In the end we will create prototypes for a small science communication project.

It is quite useful to bring a smart phone and/or a laptop to research some data as well as create short videos.

Teaching Methods

  • interactive lecture
  • exercises in small groups
  • fast prototyping

We will have an introductory lecture, which is filled with small exercises. From time to time we will have longer periods for project work. In an online setting we will use breakout rooms, in an offline setting we will split the groups across the room.

This workshop will help you

  • communicating your science
  • to identify possible target audiences
  • understand why we should communicate our science
  • create fast prototypes for science communication formats
