Convent General Assembly and Representatives of Doctoral Candidates - Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources

Freiburg Research Services  Central service department of the university for researchers. Comprises International Graduate Academy (IGA), EU Office and Science Support Centre (SSC).

Graduate Center (GraCe)
Central service department of the University for all PhD students (part of Freiburg Research Services). Offers wide range of courses and counselling.

Welcome Center for Inernational Ph.D. students

Provides non-academic support related to their stay in Freiburg (pre-arrival, arrival, stay)

 

SUPERVISION

Guidelines for Good Supervision of Doctoral Candidates at the University of Freiburg. The aim of these guidelines is to establish lasting standards for a culture of supervision that gives equal consideration to doctoral candidates and their supervisors.

 

Conflict Counseling

Conflict counseling is offered for doctoral candidates of all faculties at the University of Freiburg (except for the Faculty of Medicine) who encounter a social conflict. It´s counseling, not mediation.

 

Ombudsprocess
Supports PhDs and their supervisors in resolving conflicts arising from the supervision relationship or work on the dissertation.

RESEARCH SERVICES

Freiburg Research Services  Central service department of the university for researchers. Comprises International Graduate Academy (IGA), EU Office and Science Support Centre (SSC).

Science Support Centre
Advising and support for planning and preparing proposals of third-party-funded research projects.

Freiburg Funding Portal
Allows online search for current calls for applications and funding opportunities. Includes more than 1000 national and international funding programs.

Research Database
Documents and presents the research activities of the entire university.

Counseling Service Frauenhorizonte (website in German only)

Frauenhorizonte e.V. is the Freiburg contact and counseling center for women who have experienced sexual assault.

The “Draw a line” campaign is directed against sexualized discrimination and violence at universities in Baden-Württemberg.

  • Read the invaluable blog Patter of Prof Pat Thompson, Professor of Education in the School of Education, The University of Nottingham, for all things academic writing and other helpful tips for PhD students.
  • The Research Whisperer - long-time favourite of graduate researchers the world over, Dr Inger Mewburn, Director of Research Training at The Australian National University, has many tips for taming your PhD and improving your academic writing.
  • For some concrete support to manage information overload, Associate Professor Dr Raul Pacheco-Vega in the Public Administration Division of the Center for Economic Teaching and Research (Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economicas, CIDE) in Mexico provides detailed descriptions of both analogue and digital note-taking methods over on his blog. You'll also find useful videos on note-taking using the Cornell Method here.
